Years ago I started serving all snacks to my kids with some sort of fruit and veg. It's become such a normal part of their food routine now and I thought I'd explain my thinking behind it.
1. Kids are usually very hungry after school. It can be a long gap between lunch at school and a snack once they get home. If they are hungry they are far more likely to eat fruit and veg when served up with other snacks.
2. Fruit and veg will help to fill them up after school but not so much that they then refuse to eat dinner.
3. Getting a few portions of fruit and veg into kids in the afternoon takes the pressure off dinnertime. If they refuse to eat veg with dinner then you at least know that they've already had some.
4. Served with a snack like these mini banana breads, it will begin to become normal eating habits to enjoy a sweet treat alongside some added goodness.
